First flour the cutlets! To allow the egg to adhere to the pork.

Next egg it, so that the breadcrumbs will adhere.

Crumb it (:

Ta-dah, breaded pork cutlets, ready to be fried.

After frying them till a sunny golden brown, cut them into sizable strips, ready for eating!

Serve with thick curry sauce with loads of potatoes, onions, and carrots in it, and a serving of warm rice. (:

Nyanko!

August 29, 2008

Nyanko the Movie 2 was a great movie, go catch it if you can! (: Though it’s somewhat more like a documentary than a movie per se. haha.

Took this picture whilst waiting for my aunt to come pick me up to go marketing. (: It was such a serene window of time, the roads were quiet, the kids had already gone off on their buses for their morning school sessions, and the rest were still deep in slumber.

And the sky was beautiful. (: Love mornings like that.

Back from Nepal!

August 17, 2008

The trip was a really great one! Enjoyed myself thoroughly, had loads of fun, and almost died when trekking (though the scenery was breathtaking!).

Glen and I had an awfully great time, that’s for sure!

Gonna be a picture- intensive post (:

Robert the Robot at Swayambunath Stupa! The people there couldn’t fathom the presence of Robert the Robot, haha.

Robert the Robot at the Thangka Shop in Thamel, where Glen was buying handing over money to the shopkeeper for many beautiful pieces of art.

White Water Rafting, on Tresuli River, which was awesome! Just me and Glen on the boat, so they needed a whole bunch of other people to help power the raft, else we would have ended up stuck in the many whirlpools, unable to break past the enormous power of the river at all. 3 hours on the river, and 3/4 through saw a water fight with a rival raft, with a whole bunch of americans on it. FUN!

And very traditional for me on any trip, I’d be taking pictures of the flora! This was a very splendid pink bloom in my hotel gardens in Pokhara, which I took just before breakfast was served.

The view of the Annapurna Range from my hotel room. By the way, anything below 5000m in height is considered a hill, not a mountain. But to me, anything above the height of Bukit Timah Hill is a mountain, haha.

The start of my trek from Nayapul to Hillei (I’ve got no idea whether I spelt this right coz the name never appeared on any of my maps and guide books), when I still had my mood to take pics. Right is Gopal, my guide, who is an awesome guy when it comes to endurance. And left is Glen, who is equally as enduring as him. Glen’s like “now you see, now you don’t”.

Donkeys who carry all the essentials for the residents of the deep mountains, and the tea house owners. They’re rather cute, and rather benign, and not jumpy or anything. But they have the craziest smelliest shit, and it’s like EVERYWHERE. Which made walking in a straight line IMPOSSIBLE whilst trekking.

The many steep slate staircases that greeted me after every single turn. It was a normal chain of thought for me during this whole trip.

  1. Climb to top of steep slope, whilst cursing in mind.
  2. Turn around bend at top of the slope.
  3. See the same thing again.
  4. Curse.
  5. Climb to yet another top of steep slope, whilst cursing more in mind.

And you get my drift. Ha. Trekked from the height of 500+m to 3200m. So that equates to many a steep slope.

This was taken on the way to Ghorepani from Ulleri, on the 2nd day. The jungles were all shrouded in a thick ethereal mist, with the clouds drifting in and amongst the trees. It seemed all covered with ferns, and lichens, and thick undergrowth.

The sun rising whilst going up to Poon Hill. This was at about 5 am, I think.

Up on Poon Hill. Can’t remember the name of the mountain in the background. But it’s definitely taller than 8000m in height.

Ladybird Galore! Which made plenty of lovely oppurtunities to do nice macro shots. Glen christened me Queen of Macro Shots. LOL. Love macro (: And with my obsession with anything red, buggy, and dotted with 7 black dots, well, let’s just say I went a teensy bit mad. (:

Fishtail Lodge, where we stayed in at Ghorepani. Our room was the best one, which we managed to get during the off- season period! Woke up in the morning to a clear view of the Annapurna Range.

This was taken on the way down from Ghorepani, and this was somewhere slightly or before Ulleri. The steep slippery slate staircases were sometimes quite hard to get your feet about, but it got better as I went down more.

And after resting a night in Hillei, it was back to Nayapul and Pokhara after a 2 hour journey on a rickety, loud, black smoke emitting machine/bus/monstrosity.

Landslides were common along the way back, after a long duration of rain. Close to 15 hours, if I remember correctly! And the roads were literally gone. No way we could have walked over had no one been there to fix up a temporary road by quickly arranging slates to form a walkable path.

And that’s me, trying to make it across without slipping and landing down a deep crevice just 4 cm away from the edge of the make- shift path. Scary shit. Quite a few almosts happened.

Back in Pokhara after the 5 day trek! (: There were signboards like this everywhere, and I thought it looked awfully interesting! And really, what kind of name’s Vagabond Guest House. haha.

New Paragon Handicrafts in Pokhara – Where it was full of lovely pashmina scarves, and little trinkets, and goat skin bags.

In Kathmandu! Sightseeing on Kathmandu Durbar Square, where a “Sadhu” got me to take a picture for him in return for some monetary reward. Cool guy.

Thought this was an interesting shot (:

And this was the other temples all around the Kathmandu Durbar Square. Quite free for all to rest on, and chill atop.

So the next day after our half day in Kathmandu, we returned home! Took some lightning shots on the way back. Constant turbulence, and loads of rain clouds greeted us whilst we were flying above Malaysia.

This was before flying through the HUGE rain cloud, and being subject to a great deal of turbulence.

Lightning shots, I like!

Anyways, yes got back to Singapore, and by a funny twist of fate, my mother was getting off a plane from Yangon just maybe a few minutes after I landed. And we were collecting our baggage from the same belt too. And the thing is, I didn’t know she was going to Myanmar, and neither did she know that I was coming back from Singapore at that time. LOL.

And yeap, that was my trip :D Had loads of fun, did enough trekking to last me a lifetime. And too much beautiful scenery to boot (:

Off to Nepal!

Will be back in 10 days! :)
